Q.
Bill, what are your coaching and living plans for the 2006 season?
What will your focus be?
Bill:
Well we should have the family based in Switzerland. I will
be working with the management of the WIC, as we make it bigger
and better, but will continue with my association in coaching
the German team. Also, I will likely be involved in coaching
at the new Swiss Bank track, about to be built.
As far as teams go, I will be coaching a team, or some teams
in 2006, that are contesting SIC or WIC events.
But
the main focus will be helping Coni Atther to make the SIC &
WIC into the best it can be.
Q.
What changes can we expect with the 2006 Bont International
Team?
B.
Major changes, as we will not directly have an International
WIC team in 2006. We needed to win in 2005 to fund the team,
we could not tie up a major co-sponsor, so a Bont team as such
will not be in 2006, but look for some interesting co-sponsorship
deals in 2006, we will still be very visible out there.
Q.
What are the basic elements necessary
that make a world class skater?
B.
Nowdays Technique, Technique, Technique, unless you have it
right, you can only go so fast for so long, no matter if you
are Superman or Canadian Pete. But my 21 Golden Ds also cover
it, under the 3 groupings of 7 a piece, Can You, Are You, (the
3rd has slipped me at present, it is after 6am and no bed yet).
Q.
How do you keep skaters motivated?
B.
Well the pro guys are often motivated by what
they earn, a very nice way of life and lifestyle, if you make
it. Most of them train by themselves, think they know it all
and it's not easy to be a coach as such, let's try the word
team co-ordinater. It's probably more appropriate.
But basically unless you are motivated and inspirational yourself,
others around you are not going to be either, so you as the
leader set the pace and the example, remember the group moves
at the pace of the leader.
But
when I am coaching a regular club, on a daily basis, I like
to build dreams and paint pictures, let them see the heights
they can aspire to.
I think my mission statement covers what I am on about, along
with my Begg Vie for Victory Formula.
Q.
Do you have any comments and recommendations
regarding skate equipment?
B.
The technology is changing that quickly, that by the time we
spend a few months debating and thinking about it, then pull
out the credit card, then finally lace up the boots, there is
already somehing better on the scene. Watch out for the
new Bont S Frame magnesium Frames & 3 mount boots, my family
has been testing them since May, they will have an impact, on
the market.
Q.
What are your suggestions to a good
winter training program?
Well it depends if you are snowed in, effected by the snow,
or live in Colombia, California, Australia or N.Z. where you
can do your outdoor stuff, all year around. But for the top
liners, offskate/Plyometrics and weight training programs are
the number one priorities.
Remember with aerobic fitness, its hard to gain, but easy to
maintain. 3 40 minute workouts aerobically during the week will
help keep your fitness level right, but with all training, ensure
you are trainig with a purpose, at every session and not just training for the sake of training.
Cheers.
Bill
