Hamburg Marathon for runners is Germany's second biggest event, with more than 20.000 participants. For the speed skater world elite it is the season opener as the first race of the world cup series in Europe. Even for the average skater Hamburg Marathon is a little bit different from all other races in Germany: Precondition for a participation is a proven record of a marathon race time under 2 hours within the last three years. This threshold should not bee too high for the readers of this newsletter, and it was not for me - otherwise someone else would have written this report.
