2 Major Surrey Parks Are Getting A $10 Million Transformation

by Amy Huang |

Not only will these parks be getting a nice makeover, but some warmer-weather installations will receive a transformation as Metro Vancouver shifts away from summer and into autumn– the perfect time to start some construction.

SURREY PARKS UPGRADES

Monday’s regular Council Meeting saw Surrey City Council approve about $10 million in upgrades for 2 major parks.

The first is for Cloverdale Athletic Park, which will be receiving “$9 million in contracts for two new turf fields and a parking lot.” According to the City of Surrey’s website, the park is currently under construction for these two synthetic turf fields, with them replacing the existing grass fields. They are meant to provide a surface for all-weather facilities for youth and adult leagues, and are expected to be completed in summer 2026.

Additionally, they are installing a “fully signalized intersection on 64 avenue.”

BEAR CREEK PARK

The other to-be upgraded park is Bear Creek Park with $928,000 going toward replacing its water park. Although, construction has not yet begun. In the planning and design phase, Bear Creek Park is slated to get some upgrades to its amenities. Moreover, its splash park equipment and surfacing upgrades will see a huge transformation.

“The new design will feature zones for different types of water play for kids of all abilities, with equipment ranging from high-energy spray features to gentle streams and a water table,” said the media release. Construction is to begin this fall and be completed in spring 2025.

Bear Creek Park has also seen other upgrades in recent times. This includes the completion of its $27.5 million Bear Creek Stadium in July 2025.

“These investments reflect our commitment to building vibrant, inclusive spaces that support healthy, active lifestyles,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “The new turf fields will significantly increase sports field capacity, and the new water park at Bear Creek will create a fun destination for families for years to come. Together, these upgrades are helping to ensure that our parks are serving the needs of Surrey’s growing population.”

The upgrades to these two major Surrey parks are sure to be highly-anticipated in the next year.
