Bringing not only holiday cheer, but also amazing fundraising and spectacular performances, this much-loved tradition is something you won’t want to miss when it comes chugging along into Western Canada.
THE CPKC TRAIN
The CPKC Train is “the first and only single-line rail network connecting a continent– Canada, the United States and Mexico,” writes the CPKC website. It’s actually a combination of the Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) railways, making it the sole transnational railway network in North America.
Each year, CPKC tours Canada and the U.S. for the holidays. The train raises money, food, and awareness for food banks across the network while also putting on some huge concerts on its stage. The CPKC Holiday Train has raised over $26 million and approximately 5.4 million pounds of food for food banks since its initial journey in 1999.
The train’s concerts are completely free to attend, although donations are highly encouraged. Considering the event is to raise both money and food for local food banks, it’s best to bring along a monetary or food donation to help the cause
