Kitsilano Pool Is Reopening For The Entire Summer And Here’s When

by Amy Huang |

Situated right next to Kitsilano Beach, this pool is a popular place for families and friends alike to enjoy a sunny day without getting sand stuck between their toes.

THE CLOSURES

Kitsilano Pool has had some bad luck in the past couple of years. In 2022, a king tide caused the pool’s piping system to be damaged. Due to this, it was no longer able to circulate and filter its water correctly. Add onto that the cracks and breaking seams in the main tank and you’ve got a pool that desperately needs some repairs.

Although the pool reopened in June 2023, it was closed for the majority of 2024’s Summer season. Nearly $4 million was dedicated to Kitsilano Pool’s repairs, but unfortunately it was still leaking water. A replacement was not on the table at that time, practically years from being realized. It opened briefly from August to September in 2024, and was then promptly closed for the season.

THE GRAND REOPENING

Now, after a slew of repairs and disappointing closures, Kitsilano Pool is opening on time this year.

As an end-of-life pool, the city is aware that the facility is on its last legs. These repairs are little more than a bandage, and the fifty-year-old pool is certainly showing its age. Still, the city is dedicated to giving it a few more years of life. In the meantime, a new facility is being planned.

Renowned for its beautiful views, Kitsilano Pool is a must-visit for any Metro Vancouverite looking for a swim. With 137 metres to its name, it is also known as North America’s longest outdoor swimming pool.

Barring any unexpected issues, Kitsilano Pool is expected to reopen Saturday, May 17. If you plan on visiting, be sure to book a reservation before heading over. Although you’re not required to book online, admission is not guaranteed at the door.
